How do I calculate fuel cost per km?
Divide the fuel price per liter by the consumption in L/100km, then divide by 100. At $1.60/L and 7 L/100km, cost is 11.2 cents per km.
What is the difference between L/100km and mpg?
L/100km measures liters used per 100 km; mpg measures miles per gallon. Lower L/100km and higher mpg both mean better efficiency.
Are electric cars really cheaper to run?
Yes, usually. At $0.15/kWh and 15 kWh/100km, an EV costs about $2.25 per 100 km versus $11.20 for a 7 L/100km petrol car at $1.60/L — around 5× cheaper.
How much fuel does my car use per year?
Multiply consumption (L/100km) by annual distance (km) and divide by 100. 15,000 km at 7 L/100km uses about 1,050 liters per year.
How is CO2 calculated?
Burning one liter of petrol produces about 2.31 kg of CO2; diesel about 2.68 kg. Multiply by annual liters consumed. EVs produce zero tailpipe CO2.
Does driving style affect fuel cost?
Significantly. Aggressive acceleration, high speed and heavy loads can increase consumption by 15–40%, which directly raises your cost per km.
Why is my actual consumption higher than the official figure?
Official WLTP figures are measured in ideal conditions. Real-world city driving, cold weather, AC, traffic and driving style usually add 10–30%.
Should I include other running costs?
Fuel is only part of the picture. Insurance, maintenance, tax and depreciation matter too — especially when comparing with an EV.
