Two coats, always
Two coats give even color and durability. Dark-to-light changes often need three.
Coverage varies
Most paints cover 10–12 m²/L on smooth primed walls. Rough or porous surfaces need more.
Buy the same batch
Paint batches can vary slightly in shade. Buy enough in one batch to avoid visible differences.

FAQ
Paint calculator FAQ
How much paint do I need for a room?
Measure the wall area (perimeter × height), subtract doors (~2 m² each) and windows (~1.2 m² each), then multiply by the number of coats. Divide by the coverage per liter (about 10–12 m²/L) to get liters.
How many square meters does a liter of paint cover?
Most quality paints cover about 10–12 m² per liter per coat. Darker colors and rough or porous surfaces may need more.
Do I need two coats of paint?
Usually yes. Two coats give even color and better durability. Dark-to-light or light-to-dark changes may need three.
How do I measure a room for painting?
Add the length of all walls, multiply by the ceiling height to get the wall area, then subtract doors and windows. Add the ceiling if you paint it too.
What size cans does paint come in?
Common sizes are 0.75 L, 2.5 L, 5 L and 10 L. A 5 L can covers roughly 50–60 m² for one coat.
Why is my paint estimate higher than the can says?
Coverage figures assume smooth primed surfaces. Textured walls, dark base colors, and brush/roller losses can reduce real coverage by 10–20%.
Should I paint the ceiling?
Ceilings are usually painted a flat white for light reflection. Add the ceiling area (length × width) to your total if you do.
How much does it cost to paint a room?
DIY cost is mostly the paint: a medium bedroom needs ~4–6 L of paint, around $40–80. Professional painting adds labor ($30–60 per m² depending on region).
